Gary Brooker, the lead singer of 60’s orchestra rockers Procol Harum, turns 69 years today. Brooker and Procol Harum scored a #1 hit in the Uk with “Whiter Shade of Pale.” Since its release in 1967, the song has achieved a kind of immortality, having been used in dozens of films and television shows including New York Stories and The Big Chill. Here’s a live version from 2005, recorded in Denmark, that retains all of the haunting beauty of the original.
