Let’s Start A New Dance Craze, Shall We? (25 step by step instructions)

by Tony Shea November 21, 2014

Now that this election is finally behind us, I can again focus on what I truly love, namely dance. At 6’ 1” and 215 pounds, I guess you could say that I was born to dance, the same way that a fish is born to swim or that a bird is meant to fly. […]

30 Seconds at Grand Central – Ghost Train

by Tony Shea November 21, 2014

Opened in 1871, Grand Central Terminal (Grand Central Station as it more familiarly known) is the largest train station in the world by number of platforms. There are 67 tracks and 21.6 million visitors pass through it every year. It is the kind of place that immediately serves as a metaphor for the afterlife, or […]

Monogold at Glasslands – This Bloom – Album Release – REVIEW – A+

by Tony Shea November 17, 2014

On a Saturday night that saw freezing temperatures on the East Coast, Monogold brought the heat to Glasslands in Williamsburg, firing up a sold out crowd who had come for the release of the band’s newest album, This Bloom. Hailing from Brooklyn, Monogold is a three-pice unit consisting of Keith Kelly on lead vox, guitar […]

Dead Man’s Party – Halloween – NY

by Tony Shea November 2, 2014

There have been a proliferation of hardcore haunted houses (like Blackout and the super extreme McKamey Manor in San Diego) over the past couple years as folks seek out more intense thrills. And while I have flirted with the idea of attending one of these gruesome events, I realize that these days I’m more interested in some […]

Restless Leg Syndrome Rube Goldberg Is Awesome!

by Tony Shea October 23, 2014

I absolutely love Rube Goldberg devices. There’s just something about a causal chain of events that I find fascinating, and none more so perhaps than this one,  a kind of ingenious public service campaign to promote understanding of restless leg syndrome (RLS) in the UK. I have no idea what to do with that piece […]

Fall Comes to New York

by Tony Shea October 22, 2014

With temps down in the low 50’s and high 40’s at night, not to mention a healthy dousing of recent rain, autumn has arrived in New York, producing a glorious  cascade of reds and oranges, purples, yellows and browns, a kind of  abstract painting that will soon be removed to reveal a sky filled with winter’s […]

Every Time a Whale Explodes You Should Thank Alfred Nobel

by Tony Shea October 21, 2014

Alfred Nobel would have been 118 today. Of course, instantly you think of the Nobel Prize when you hear the name, and probably more specifically of the Nobel Peace Prize. Since the Nobel Prizes were first awarded in 1901, nearly 900 folks have been recognized for their great contributions in the fields of chemistry, literature, […]

Silver Screams – Creep Joint Scratch – Review

by Tony Shea October 17, 2014

There’s a pile of cd’s (and manuscripts) in my office that will more than likely never be reviewed. Partially because I no longer have a CD player, except in my car, but mostly because I have psychic blinders on. The pile could be a chair or a table—inanimate. But then the Silver Screams new EP, […]

The Tall Man – Tim Robbins – Top 5 Films

by Tony Shea October 16, 2014

Tim Robbins, who turns 58 today, has always been a sort of unlikely Hollywood movie star, too tall and overly boyish – it does’t seem like he could grow a beard. But it’s that awkward vulnerability that has served him well in both comedic and dramatic roles (71 so far as an actor), earning him […]
