Let’s Get Up Close and Personal with a Volcano …. Shall We?

by Jay Hood August 16, 2018

Hawaii. The very word conjures up a myriad of tropical images from sandy beaches to fruity drinks with umbrellas to hula dancers at sunset to scorching lava. Step off the plane in Honolulu and before the day is out, you can probably run through most of your tropical paradise checklist. But lava, that takes a […]

Let’s Go To Hell …. Shall We?

by Jay Hood August 13, 2018

(Westward Ho – Episode XV) Poor Mr. Bumpass. He never really saw it coming.  I guess he should have expected it.  But hindsight is 20/20.  In his defense, it wasn’t called hell at the time.  So how should he have known? Only after he’d been there did it earn the name.   It was indeed […]

Let’s Drive Around a Volcano in Iceland … Shall We?

by Jay Hood May 6, 2015

Iceland. We spent most of our time around Reykjavik. There were countless highlights on the tourist checklist, most centered in proximity to the capital city. We saw waterfalls, thermal pools and whales. In the end, it was a spur of the moment drive that ended up being the coolest thing we did. One day, toward […]

Top 10 Comic Book Series

by Jay Hood December 18, 2014

Superheroes are everywhere these days. Marvel has mapped out all of their superhero movies between now and 2018. DC has done the same for their franchise superheroes. I’m not sure The CW shows anything but superhero shows at this point. With so many caped crusaders flying around both the big and small screens, it is […]

In Contempt of … Bad Drivers

by Jay Hood November 5, 2014

Friday. 5:15 pm. Rush hour in Baltimore. Three blocks from the Inner Harbor and traffic is at a complete standstill. This is the very definition of gridlock. Bad drivers abound. Most have even given up honking. What is the point? Lights turn from green to red and back to green with no movement whatsoever. To […]

Raw Force (Kung Fu Cannibals): In 7 Scenes

by Jay Hood October 31, 2014

I recently attended a 48 hour horror movie marathon. While I did not attend the full time, I made sure I was there for two fantastic movies from the eighties. The pièce de résistance was Raw Force, a “virtual smorgasbord of over the top sleaze” and a “quintessential piece of early 80’s sleaze”.

Castillo San Felipe del Morro: [PHOTO] of the Day

by Jay Hood October 31, 2014

Castillo San Felipe del Morro. El Morro. The Promontory. Whatever you want to call it, the fort at the entrance of San Juan Bay in Puerto Rico is impressive. One stands on the grounds looking at the imposing walls imagining how hard it would be to capture. As imposing and large as it is outside, […]

Otterbein in Fall: Scenes of a Baltimore Neighborhood

by Jay Hood October 27, 2014

Otterbein is a small neighborhood in Baltimore situated between the Inner Harbor and Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The neighborhood is comprised mainly of historic row homes that date back to the mid 1800’s. Sea captains and other industrial leaders of the time lived in the neighborhood due to the proximity to the water front. […]

Blood Diner: In 7 Scenes

by Jay Hood October 9, 2014

Blood Diner is a horror movie that defies expectations. That is, if your expectations are the typical “don’t go down the basement stairs” or “don’t walk through those dark woods alone” and “don’t be an idiot” shout at the screen type expectations. What Blood Diner gives you is cannibals and vegetarians (sometimes even in the […]

Let’s Go To Edgar Allan Poe’s Grave (Again) … Shall We?

by Jay Hood October 7, 2014

I had good intentions. Really, I did. I had an idea. I had a plan. I just needed the time to carry it out. It was going to be the ideal first story. Those were the first words I wrote for Shea Magazine back in October of 2012. And now, two years later, with Poe’s […]

Great Pocono Pumpkin Festival – Who’s Ready For Some Fun!

by Jay Hood October 3, 2014

If you are in the Poconos this October, make plans to attend the Great Pocono Pumpkin Festival. I picked up a brochure while traveling through Southeastern Pennsylvania and I have to say, I don’t see how this doesn’t get added to my October calendar. And it should be added to your October itinerary as well.
